NS’s front office has been under construction since the summer of 2025 and is nearing completion in the next couple weeks. The state legislature sent out a bill saying that all schools in Utah needed a safe, new entry way to help keep the building and students safe. They sent out a grant that gave the school $1.6 million for the construction.
“It’s going to be amazing,” Assistant Superintendent Rena Orton said. “It will be so beautiful and open and safe and secure.”
The staff are hoping that by mid February, the front office will be done and everyone will be able to move and settle into their new space. Many of the office staff will be moved into the new office, while the others will stay in the original. Secretaries Tarra Blackhurst and Tori Hansen will move into the new addition, while attendance secretaries Natalie Stephenson and Teri Anderson will stay in the old office.
“I’m excited to have a big window,” Blackhurst said. “I haven’t been able to see outside since I have worked at the high school. It will also be nice to have a bigger and nicer area for visitors.”
Even though it’s big and new with more space, there are some bittersweet feelings having to move to the newer area.
“It will be a bit of an adjustment not being in the same office with the attendance secretaries because we work together so closely,” Blackhurst said.
There are many opinions of how the new office is going to be. But regardless of the outcome, many students are annoyed with the construction happening during school.
“You can't get into what used to be the main doors,” senior Cade Willden said. “Now you have to go all the way around to the other main doors now and walk all the way down.”
But even with the construction happening, a lot of the students are relieved that it is almost over. Now that the parking lot is opening back up, many students are happy and excited to see what the office will be like.
“I’m excited to see how it turns out,” Willden said, “to see how it looks, and see if it's gonna be more efficient.”
The entrance will have new locks and rules for entering the school after the bells ring. As soon as the bell rings the front doors will lock and any student that comes in after that will have to go through the office and check in before entering the school.
“I hope students love it, take care of it, appreciate it and be respectful in a new space so that we can keep it nice for a long time,” Orton said.
Not very many people have seen the inside of the office, but the anticipation of the grand opening has been building. Many people are excited to finally get a look at what has been under construction for the past seven months.
